The knot drawer

Twelve knots every kite flyer should own, with diagrams drawn by hand because the scanning machine keeps eating the lark's head.

The knot drawer sits under the counter and holds forty cards in the workshop's own hand. Six of them are online in the knot library; the rest are earned through visits, which is how the drawer prefers it.

The card everyone photographs is No. 1, the lark's head, because it is the first knot in the works and the one that fails most publicly when tied carelessly. Ada's note on the card reads: 'A lark's head tied lazy is a kite given away.'

The newest card, added this summer, is the flying bowline: a bowline tied with the loop sized to slip over a wrist. It came from a Flying Club member aged eleven, who is credited on the card and insufferable about it.
